Research notes

The museum’s recognisable silhouette is only one part of its organisation along Singapore’s waterfront.

Safdie Architects describes galleries above the promenade and others below a water-lily garden. A steel lattice and diagrid support the asymmetrical form; the exterior is clad in fibre-reinforced polymer.

The roof also gathers rainwater and directs it through the central oculus. Reading section, support and water together gives the building more depth than treating its lotus comparison as a complete explanation.

What the sources do not establish
  • The architecture reference is not a complete gallery fit-out schedule.
