Explore Shanghai Astronomy Museum’s Oculus, Sphere and Inverted Dome, and how they make sunlight and the sky part of the visit.

Research notes
Ennead uses three distinct spatial devices to connect a museum visit with real celestial phenomena.
The Oculus traces sunlight across the entrance area, the Sphere contains the planetarium theater, and the Inverted Dome frames the sky above the central atrium. These are different ways of making astronomical ideas tangible.
A spiraling route connects the museum experience with the open-sky conclusion. Compare the building with Chengdu’s science fiction museum: one foregrounds physical observation, while the other organizes a broader cultural and event program beside a lake.
