Research notes

Intersecting planes create a protected domestic setting that opens inward toward gardens and a pool.

An enclosure beside the road

Stu/D/O's Casa de Alisa places substantial concrete surfaces between the house and its surrounding neighborhood. The arrangement separates shared rooms at ground level from more private accommodation above. Openings are concentrated where they connect rooms with the house's more sheltered outdoor spaces.

Where the planes stop

Look for the places where a solid wall gives way to glazing or an open edge. Sliding doors allow some ground-floor rooms to extend toward the gardens and pool. The relationship between a continuous upper plane and the spaces beneath it explains how separate domestic areas form one composition.
